• ANNUAL REPORT 2014-2015
The Faculty of The Built Environment currently offers
eight undergraduate courses of study and two graduate
courses of study. Development of a MPhil/Doctoral
programme continues.
Accreditation
The accreditation/re-accreditation of courses of
study within the FOBE remains a top priority for the
faculty. Measures are in place to ensure that during
the next review period applications for accreditation
will be made for most of the courses of study and the
necessary preparatory work is well advanced.
Co-operative Education Activities
Co-operative education is an important element in the
curricula for most of the courses of study in the FOBE.
Students in the QS division are attached to Quantity
Surveying and related firms for an entire semester
to gain valuable industry experience in areas directly
related to their course of study. This is also the case for
students in the Land Economy and Valuation Surveying
(LEVS) course of study. Students in the Surveying
and Geographic Information Sciences (SGIS) course
are attached to surveyors in the public and private
sectors for exposure in particular areas that mirror the
professional requirements in that discipline. For the
academic year 2014/15, twenty Urban and Regional
Planning (URP) students are placed at different land
related agencies in Jamaica. The current interns are
gaining invaluable experience in the fields of disaster
management, transportation planning, local government
planning, community development planning, urban
design, community planning, environmental planning
and energy planning.
