AACSB Accreditation
In January 2015, the College of Business and
Management was admitted to membership of the
Association of Advanced Collegiate Schools of
Business (AACSB). The College is on course to pursue
accreditation by the AACSB in the hope of becoming
the first Business School/College in the English
speaking Caribbean to be accredited by the AACSB.
The College is actively engaged in ensuring that all its
programmes are accredited by the relevant bodies.
First Cohort
The first cohort of the BSc Entrepreneurship from the
Joan Duncan School of Entrepreneurship, Ethics and
Leadership graduated in November 2014. Advanced
preparations are underway for the completion and
submission of the application request for accreditation
of the BSc Entrepreneurship to the University Council
of Jamaica (UCJ).
The Bachelor of Science in Administrative Management
was developed, and approved for delivery in AY 2015-
2016 by the School of Business Administration. The
BSc in Economics was revised and approved for
delivery also in AY 2015/6.
The offering of the Customer Service module as an
online course in the School of Hospitality and Tourism
Management was piloted with nineteen (19) students
in semester 2 of the academic year (2014/2015)
as an elective. The first class was a face-to-face
interactive session where the module’s lecturer met
with the students to provide guidelines/an overview
for participation in the online module. The Office of
Distance Learning (ODL) conducted a training session
to guide students in navigating the online module.
Entrepreneurship
Students Lasanna Allen, Ryan Reid, Orane Edwards,
Trudy-Ann Smith and Rajesh Hutchinson operating
Alorrs Jerk City, emerged winners of the Club
Billionaire Competition, the Micro-Enterprise
competition which commenced operations in January
2014. The competition was organized in collaboration
with the Scotiabank Chair in Entrepreneurship and
Development and Bio-Tech RandD Institute.
The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) launched
the 2013 Jamaica Report on June 25th and 26th 2014
at the Jamaica Conference Centre during the inaugural
International Conference on Entrepreneurship. The
keynote speakers for both days were the Honourable
Anthony Hylton, Minister of Industry, Investment
and Commerce and the Honourable Julian Robinson,
Minister of State, Ministry of Science, Technology,
Energy and Mining respectively. Other speakers
were the Director of GEM Caribbean, Dr Rodreigo
Varela, Dr Craig Watters, Associate Professor from
