Journal of Arts Science And Technology (JAST)
Volume 7 of the annually published Journal of
Arts Science and Technology (JAST) was issued
in November 2014. The journal carried 10 multi-
disciplinary papers by UTech, Jamaica staff and
external contributors. JAST is now posted online with
EBSCOHost and on the University website. The Call
for Papers for volume 8, 2015, was issued in February
2015.
CARIBBEAN SUSTAINABLE ENERGY AND
INNOVATION INSTITUTE (CSEII)

The Caribbean Sustainable
Energy and Innovation
Institute (CSEII) continued to
build strategic partnerships
with institutions and
industry both locally and
internationally. CSEII’s
mission is to provide
leadership in sustainable energy for the University
through applications in renewable energy, applied
research, energy efficiency, policy and energy
education.
Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Training
The Institute with the support of the German
international development agency, Deutsche
Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ),
successfully conducted a six-week intensive Solar PV
Design and Implementation course in November 2014.
Twenty persons including engineers, renewable energy
project managers, Solar PV installers/technicians
and energy practitioners participated in lectures, lab
sessions and introduction to software resources PV*
Sol donated by GIZ. Lecturers were from the School
of Engineering and GIZ Consultant Professor Christoph
Menke. The presenter, GIZ’s Professor Christoph
Menke, also conducted a workshop in the use of the
PV*Sol Software for course participants and Lecturers.

BRIDGE Project
As part of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)
sponsored BRIDGE (Building Capacity and Regional
Integration for the Development of a Generation of
Entrepreneurs in Sustainable Energy and Information
and Communication Technologies) programme,
the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific
Research (TNO) and Arizona State University (ASU),
together with BRIDGE program partner General Electric
(GE), implemented workshops for educators on solar
energy technologies and energy efficiency January
5-16 2015. The workshop(s) were held in collaboration
with the University of the West Indies (UWI) and other
educational institutions in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago
and Barbados.
The CSEII facilitated participation of three UTech,
Jamaica lecturers who were also afforded the
opportunity to sit the North American Board of
Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Entry Level
PV Installation Professional and Solar Heating Installer
Certification exam, all of whom were successful.
