University of Technology, Jamaica Closure Notice – Impending Severe Weather Conditions

The University Community is advised that the latest bulletin from the Metrological Office of Jamaica issued at 11 AM, indicates that a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Jamaica. An area of low pressure over the west-central Caribbean Sea has become better organized and is now a Tropical Depression. This system has the potential to develop into a tropical storm later today. This means that tropical storm conditions are expected to affect Jamaica within 24 hours.

Consequently, the University will close at 2:00 pm today, Monday, November 4, 2024, to allow faculty, staff, and students to make the necessary preparations. Face- to-face classes on all campuses have been suspended until further notice. Colleges and Faculties will communicate with students regarding remote learning arrangements. Staff should observe remote working procedures and coordinate with their supervisors accordingly.

The University will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates through established communication channels, including email, UTech Jamaica Broadcaster, the University’s website, the Students’ Portal, UTech, Ja. corporate social media pages, and the 24-hour Campus Safety and Security Control Room. The Safety and Security Department will remain operational around the clock to assist with any emergencies. The contact number is 876-832-8300.

I urge all members of the University Community to remain vigilant, prepare accordingly, and stay alert and safe as weather conditions evolve.
