CANCELLED: Christopher Zacca to Deliver Keynote Address at UTech, Jamaica’s Research, Technology and Innovation Day

Research, Technology and Innovation Day planned for today, Thursday, March 12 has been cancelled.  The cancellation has resulted from the growing threat and concerns around COVID-19 and the Prime Minister’s statement yesterday regarding the discouragement of public gatherings.

Mr. Christopher Zacca, President and CEO of the Sagicor Group Jamaica will address the Opening Ceremony of the University of Technology, Jamaica’s annual Research, Technology and Innovation Day (RTID), scheduled for Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Shared Facilities Building, Papine Campus.

Mr. Zacca, who holds a wealth of business and management experience, has served as the head of Sagicor Group Jamaica since May 2017, and is well respected as a forerunner in financial and entrepreneurial industries. He has ably led in senior management positions at Desnoes and Geddes, ATL Group, Air Jamaica Ltd. and has served as President of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica. His track record in public sector service is equally impressive, and includes his holding the role of special advisor to the Prime Minister from 2009 to 2011. Mr. Zacca, who is also a former Chairman of the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ) and the National Health Fund (NHF), holds an MBA from the University of Florida and a BSc. In Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The one-day research and innovation showcase will be held under the theme: “Generating and Showcasing Impactful Research,” and will feature cutting-edge and applied research being undertaken by staff and students across the University’s four faculties and three colleges.

The day’s activities will include College/Faculty exhibits and tours as well as a Speakers’ Forum from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm, featuring presentations on current high impact research and innovation being pursued in the many areas in which the university teaches and researches. Students, businesses, Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) practitioners as well as departments and agencies of Government involved in STI are invited.  UTech, Jamaica’s Research, Technology and Innovation Day activities are free and open to the public.
