The Inaugural Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Science and Sport was held on June 8 – 9, 2011 in Kingston, Jamaica under the theme "Science, Technology and Sport: Bridging the Gap between Research and Practice." The conference hosted over 100 participants and showcased the work of 25 presenters from Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, Guyana, the UK and the USA. The plenary speakers were Prof. Yannis Pitsiladis from the College of Medicine, Veterinary and Life Sciences, Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences, University of Glasgow and Prof. Garth Baker, Director of Research, Caribbean Institute for Mathematical Sciences (CIMS). Session themes included: Sport Science, Practical Biology, Industrial Applications, Mathematics and Statistics in the Real World, the Art and Science of Teaching: Case Studies from Jamaica, Information Technology Use in Education and the Science of Our Environment. Conference papers are being published in a special edition of the Journal of Arts, Science and Technology.
