Mrs. Cynthia Shako, a Nurse by profession served as Head of Health Services at the former College of Arts, Science and Technology (CAST) now University of Technology, Jamaica. Mrs. Shako is being honoured for her pioneering work in establishing the Cynthia Shako Early Childhood Education and Daycare Centre at the institution in 1993, with the mission of operating as a non-profit unit providing full day and aftercare services for infants of students and staff. Today, it has continued to live by its goal to influence all aspects of the development positively and systematically of the children of the University’s students and employees. This has resulted in social and emotional growth, good physical health and intellectual development of the children under their care over the years. Mrs. Cynthia Shako, a visionary for 30 years, has established this Centre, which is a functional success. The Centre has been expanded to serve the needs of the University and beyond.
