Development / Review of Governance Instruments Work continued, spearheaded by the Governance Unit on the amendment and development of existing and new Governance Instruments. These governance instruments addressed administrative related areas. Final approval for academic related instruments is granted by the Academic Board, with the exception of Regulations which require the approval of the Council as guided by the UTech, Jamaica Act. The governance instruments that were approved by the Academic Board which generally emanate from Committees of the Board are also indicated in the Table on the next page: University Examination Centre • Training sessions were conducted in April and December 2018 for approximately 100 invigilators at the Papine Campus. Training sessions were also held at the Western Campus. • The number of Academic Misconduct Inquiry Panel (AMIP) cases increased from 20 for Semester 2, April/May 2018 to 32 in Semester 1, December 2018 examinations, resulting in an increase of 60%. There was only one AMIP case for Summer Session 2018. • The Special Appeals Committee (SAC) met during the respective periods to review one case for Semester 2, April/May 2018 and two cases for Semester 1, December 2018. There was no case for the Summer Session. • The UEC continues to provide invigilator services for approximately 46 students with special needs for Semester 2 April/May 2018. For July/Summer Session examinations the UEC catered to 9 students with special needs and 58 students for Semester 1 December 2018/19 examinations. This sometimes included providing a writer/reader, giving the students additional time to complete their examinations and maintaining suitable examination venues. All final examinations for Semester 1, December 2018 were held at the Papine campus. Examinations were not held at Arthur Wint or Slipe Pen Road Campus, which was due to numerous challenges with the University’s student administration system, ISAS, during this period. Online Examinations College of Health of Sciences (COHS) in partnership with the Office of Distance Learning (ODL) conducted online examinations for 4courses of study, namely Master of Science in Public Health Nutrition, Master of Health Administration, Doctor of Pharmacy and Professor Stephen Vasciannie, (left) President, presents Mr. Eric Crawford with the Honorary Doctor of Laws.
