University of Technology, Jamaica “Pioneering Past; Bright Future ” ANNUAL REPORT 2017-2018 35 Job Request and confirmed placement y The Career and Placement Unit received 565 job requests from prospective recruiters for the year April 2017-Marh 2018 period. This reflects a 5% increase in available jobs when compared to the last period. y The office recorded 96 confirmed job placements which showed a 240% increase when compared to last year’s 40 confirmed placements. 5.7.3 Job Fair Placement Graduates Employment by areas of Study The chart below showed that the majority of the job placements were in the field of Information Technology and Marketing, while the minority was in the Social Sciences and Land Surveying field. Student Resident Life Services Resident Life Programmes Halls of Residence Scholarship Programme The Accommodation Unit introduced the Halls of Residence Scholarship for the 2017/8 academic year. This scholarship is awarded to a returning student who has achieved a GPA of 2.70 or higher, is involved in hall activities, is from a rural community and upholds the rules and regulations of the Halls of Residence. The recipients for this award were: Nadia Matthews, Yakeine Shaw and Kay-Ann Smith. Halls of Residence Dinner & Awards 2017 The resident life team hosted the Annual Halls of Residence Dinner and Awards on Saturday, April 22, 2017 under the theme, “Unlocking your Vision: Making your dreams a reality” at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium,. Guest speaker was Ms. Terri-Karelle Reid, Online Brand Manager at the Gleaner. Students showcased their talent in providing entertainment at the enjoyable evening.
