University of Technology, Jamaica “Pioneering Past; Bright Future ” ANNUAL REPORT 2017-2018 29 under the theme, “RAISE IT, Adventures in Leadership” from May 15 to the May 19, 2017. Days 1 and 2 were spent at the UTech, Ja. Papine Campus while the remaining days were spent at the Moorlands Camp site in Manchester. A total of 96 students participated in the conference, which showed a 10.3% increase when compared to May 2016. The general objective of the student leadership conference is to inspire student leaders to serve in a manner that will influence positive and holistic growth amongst the student population and establish trends for successful leadership. The student leaders were exposed to training in various areas as well as team building exercises aimed at equipping them for their leadership duties for the academic year The programmes initiated by the conference planning committee aimed to inspire the student leaders to embrace and embody the UTech, Ja core values of respect, integrity, excellence, innovation, team spirit, accountability and service in an effort to further inspire the student populace to adopt these values. The programme benefitted from a number of sponsorships. The University’s Marketing Department provided 320 branded T-Shirts for the student leaders. Gift baskets and meal vouchers were received from Jamaica Biscuit Company, Hotel Four Seasons, Avantgarde, Poly foods Limited, Singer, Old MacDonald Farms, Tropical Foliage, Wisynco, Lasco Distributors, Yummy Bakery, Dairy Industries Jamaica Limited and Consolidated Bakeries (Purity). Orientation/Week of Welcome for New and Transfer Students y The University of Technology, Jamaica welcomed over 500 new and transfer students during its annual Orientation/Week of Welcome Programme. The theme for the Orientation/ Week of Welcome period was “ RAISE IT, Discovering the best you ”. The Papine Campus hosted its Orientation Programme on Sunday, August 20, 2017 to Saturday, August 26, 2017, in the Alfred Sangster Auditorium, Papine Campus, while the Western Campus hosted their new and transfer students for three days fromWednesday, August 23 to Friday, August 25, 2017 at 17 Dome Street, Montego Bay. y The culminating activity for the week, the Academic Induction Ceremony was held on Friday, August 26, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium, while the Academic Induction Ceremony for the Western Campus was held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at the St John’s Methodist, Montego Bay.
