University of Technology, Jamaica “Pioneering Past; Bright Future ” ANNUAL REPORT 2017-2018 23 Appointment of External Auditors In keeping with statutory requirements, the Council at its AGM considered submissions regarding the appointment of External Auditors and University Attorneys and approved the following appointments: - PricewaterhouseCoopers as External Auditors for the Financial Year April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018 - Myers Fletcher and Gordon as the University’s Attorneys for the period March 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019. Council Retreat The work of the Second Septennial Review Committee was substantially completed during the period, which was facilitated by a specially established Secretariat. In keeping with the timelines for the completion for the exercise and the agreement of the Council, it had been anticipated that a Council Retreat would have been held in the third or fourth quarter at which the Strategic and Operational Plans for 2018 to 2024 would be considered. However, the documents were not completed in the projected timeframe and hence this target was not achieved. Academic Board Retreat The working group continued its work on the review and compilation of reports from the Academic Board Retreat which was held on March 27, 2018. The last meeting of the working group was held on June 2, 2018 from which several documents were prepared for the consideration of the Academic Board. These were as follows: - Overarching Report from the Working Group on the Retreat (Presented to the Academic Board on November 23, 2017) – Refer Paper 2017/A/11/112D - The remaining reports have not yet been presented in keeping with the instruction of the Chairman. These are as follows: y Academic Board Operational Plan 2017/2018 y Proposed revisions to the Academic board Committee Structure y Academic Board Work Plan 2017/2018 y Revised Business Agenda of the Academic Board It is anticipated that the output reports will be considered once the Operational Plan from the Second Septennial Review exercise is addressed by the University. In so doing this will ensure alignment and consideration of priority setting of the identified objectives.
