University of Technology, Jamaica “Pioneering Past; Bright Future ” ANNUAL REPORT 2017-2018 20 DIVISION OF STUDENT SERVICES AND REGISTRY OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR Second Septennial Review Committee The Consultants, FocalPoint Consulting Ltd., continued activities aimed at fulfilling the University’s mandate, as outlined in the University Act, of conducting a Septennial Review. The Consultants commenced duties on August 8, 2016 and submitted the remaining four deliverables during the reporting period. These were: a Draft Septennial Review Report; Consultative Workshop Report; Second Septennial Review Report; and presentation on findings of the Review to the Second Septennial Review Committee. Additionally, the Consultants conducted three consultative workshops and a Strategic Planning Retreat with selected internal and external stakeholders. The outcomes of both events were used to draft the Second Septennial Review Report and a draft Strategic and Operational Plans. All deliverables with the exception of the presentation of findings were assessed by the Evaluation Sub-Committee of the Second Septennial Review Committee (SSRC). The Review process was managed by the SSRC which served as a steering committee and oversight was given by the Governance Committee of Council. The Septennial Review Report and a draft Strategic and Operational Plans were approved by the SSRC at its meeting held on September 26, 2017. The Committee instead mandated the establishment of a working group comprising of members of the University and FocalPoint to complete the necessary work required to lead to presentation of a satisfactory report. The Consultants were requested to address seven (7) focus areas and factual errors identified in the Report. Following submission of a compilation of comments from members of the University and the SSRC to FocalPoint, the Consultants submitted an amendment of the documents. The SSRC received a presentation from the Consultants on findings of the amended Second Septennial Review Report on March 5, 2018. Members of the Committee agreed that further modifications to the Report were required and that Professor Stephen Vasciannie, University President, should work with Mrs Mercedes Deane University Registrar
