The title of the research presentation was ‘Responsible Tourism: A Case of Sandals Resorts International’. y y Chef Karl Thomas, Chef Technologist at the Lillian’s Restaurant, was selected as official Chef by Grace Foods for the pre training camp for the Jamaican athletes at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where he was responsible for creating daily menus and preparing meals for the Jamaican athletes and delegation. y y Andre Swaby, was elected Treasurer of the Jamaica Union of Tertiary Students (JUTS) for academic years 2015-2016 and 2016-2017. The JUTS is a confederation of student governing bodies in the Colleges and Universities organised at the national level, since 1972 by the government, as part of its education system democratisation plan. Events y y The Monetary Economics module students hosted the second staging of its Conference on Money, Banking and Finance under the theme: “ Financial Stability in Jamaica and its Implication for the Equities Market .” The Annual Students’ Leadership Workshop was held on May 5-6, 2016 under the theme: “Making a Difference: Moving from I to We”. This workshop is held each year to prepare student leaders for the upcoming academic year. Thirty-one (31) students attended the workshop. y y The 22 nd Annual School of Business Administration Students’ Conference was held on March 21-22 (Kingston) and March 23, 2017 (Montego Bay). This is the largest student- organized conference in the Caribbean. SHTM Day was held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 in the Alfred Sangster Auditorium. This year’s theme was: “Social; Inclusion for Growth and Development in Hospitality and Tourism”. The event was very successful, having a large number of persons attending the opening ceremony including several High School students from Steer Town Academy, Ardenne High and Alpha Academy. The final year students showcased some very innovative, creative, value added and solution oriented product and services from their research endeavours. y y Representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (Barbados office) conducted a training session on cassava bread making in the bakery. Mr Winston Piper, Mrs Jeneen McNish and Mr Ceretsie Campbell from SHTM participated in Final year students at their 22nd Annual SOBA Students’ Conference. SHTM students explain their research done on the topic, “ From Junk Vendor to Health Snack Purveyor – developing a convenient line of health snacks for elementary schools” to Head of School, Dr. Gaunette Maragh-Sinclair (left) and a visitor to the booth.
