University of Technology, Jamaica ANNUAL REPORT 2016-2017 Page 48 Excellence Through Knowledge School of Business Administration (SOBA) School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) Joan Duncan School of Entrepreneurship (JDSEEL) College of Business and Management Dr. Paul Golding Dean Accreditation y y The University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) visited the Papine campus on October 25-26, 2016 for reaccreditation of the BSc. Hospitality and Tourism Management and BSc. Food Service Management offered by the SHTM. The School awaits the formal report from the UCJ. y y The BBA course of study offered by SOBA has been accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). This accreditation has enabled our students to obtain six (6) exemptions instead of three (3) from the Fundamentals Level (i.e. exemption from F1-F5 and F7). The ACCA exemption certificate was handed over on May 12, 2016. This accreditation also enables our students to access special rates and discounts through the ACCA Accelerate programme. y y SOBA conducted meetings to review the self-studies for the BSc Accounting and BSc Economics courses of study. The document is being finalised in the format required by the UCJ. y y JDSEEL completed the relevant documentation for submitting the application for accreditation of the BSc. Entrepreneurship course of study. The submission of the application to the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) was aborted in pursuant of University Accreditation. JDSEEL is now awaiting University-wide accreditation for its Course of Study. y y While institutional accreditation is being pursued, applications for accreditation for some other courses of study have been aborted. Notable student and faculty achievements y y Five students from the Food Service Management Course of Study offered by SHTM were recipients of the Jamaica Observer Food Awards Scholarship and Bursary. Damaine Beckford, Taneisha Wiscombe, Kristin Mckenzie and Shaniel Sherman received scholarships valued at $250,000 each and Tracey Ann Wray received the bursary valued at $150, 000.
