University of Technology, Jamaica ANNUAL REPORT 2016-2017 Page 43 Excellence Through Knowledge 4. Promotion of Capacity and Energy Education Development in the Caribbean Region (PROCEED-CARIBBEAN). From its participation in these projects, the University benefited through capacity building of staff members in such areas as: intellectual capital reporting, intellectual property management, innovation, knowledge transfer, academic entrepreneurship, energy modelling and forecasting and backcasting; and energy efficient cities. The projects also facilitated networking and consultations with regional and local stakeholders, and produced several studies and white papers with recommendations to enhance innovation. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IPICA PROJECT The University through the SGSRE hosted the concluding International Conference of the EU-funded IPICA Project: Empowering knowledge transfer in the Caribbean through effective Intellectual Property Rights and Knowledge Transfer regimes. The Conference was held 14-15 November 2016 in conjunction with the Biennial Science and Technology Conference of the Scientific Research Council of Jamaica (SRC). Delegates were hosted from seven countries. UTech, Jamaica was one of 11 project partners and affiliates. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY Renewal of Trademark for Lillian’s: The SGSRE renewed the registration with the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO) of the trademark for Lillian’s Restaurant on 26 September 2016 for 10 years. GOVERNMENT OF JAMAICA/ GOVERNMENT OF SOUTH AFRICA JOINT COOPERATION AGREEMENT ON SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY With the SGSRE as Secretariat and through its representative on the Committee, the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Sport, UTech, Jamaica has continued to actively engage the Joint Cooperation Agreement on Science and Technology between the Governments of Jamaica and South Africa.
