In addition, the Chair of the University Research Ethics Committee, Mr Balford Lewis, has been invited to serve on the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) Research Ethics Committee. Caribbean Research and Innovation Management Association (CabRIMA) CabRIMA is the professional body for research and innovation management practitioners in the Caribbean region. The SGSRE continues to be the Secretariat for the Association. During the period under review, in recognition of UTech’s capacity in research management, the institution was invited to make a presentation, Capacity Building for Research and the State of Research Management in the Caribbean, at a Consultation between CARICOM Tertiary Education Sector and International Development Partners (IDPs). STAFF PUBLISHING A compendium of publications by UTech staff members for the period 2007-2016 was compiled by the SGSRE. Five hundred copies, published in collaboration with the Corporate Communications Unit, have been distributed to internal and external stakeholders of the University. The compendium contained more than 600 pieces of published research work comprising books, book chapters, peer-reviewed journal papers, articles in periodicals (or the popular press), and conference presentations. JOURNAL OF ARTS, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Volume 9 of the Journal of Arts Science and Technology was released in November 2016, both in print and online. JAST is published online on EBSCOHost and on the University’s own website. The 2016 issue of the Journal carried nine original research papers and a book review. ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT Over the year the Project Management Desk handled 19 projects at various stages from expressions of interest to the oversight of contracted projects. A number of the consultancy projects secured and executed, or being executed, were of high public policy significance, either domestically or regionally. These included two CARICOM consultancies for creating regional strategic plans for ICT services and for Sport services in CARIFORUM States, a Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica (BCJ) consultancy on the Regulatory Treatment of Small Subscriber Television Operators, and a GOJ/MICAF consultancy to Train and Write Business Plans for Certified Residents of Sugar-Dependent Areas for Operating Small Businesses. EUROPEAN UNION-FUNDED PROJECTS The following projects, on which the University was a partner, were successfully completed: 1. Knowledge transfer capacity building for enhanced energy access and efficiency in the Caribbean – CAP4INNO 2. Empowering knowledge transfer in the Caribbean through effective IPR & KT regimes – IPICA 3.
