University of Technology, Jamaica ANNUAL REPORT 2016-2017 Page 38 Excellence Through Knowledge SCHOOL OF GRADUATE STUDIES, RESEARCH AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP (SGSRE) The School of Graduate Studies, Research and Entrepreneurship (SGSRE) continues to lead and manage the development and delivery of graduate programmes in the University in line with international standards and best practices. The School guides and supports entrepreneurial activity primarily through the delivery of consultancy services and research- based innovations. The SGSRE has developed and implements the intellectual property rights policy of the University. Through the Caribbean Sustainable Energy and Innovation Institute (CSEII) it hosts the University’s initiatives for sustainable energy and cost savings. The SGSRE also continues to provide guidance and supervision for the academic publications of the University, particularly the flagship Journal of Arts Science and Technology which published Volume 9 in 2016. GRADUATE STUDIES: Courses of Study and Enrolment: In the 2016-2017 Academic Year, the University offered 35 taught and research graduate degree courses of study in which 371 students were enrolled. New Course of Study: A Master’s Degree in Sustainable Energy and Climate Change (MSECC), was launched on 2 March 2017. This new course of study is a collaborative effort of the Caribbean Sustainable Energy and Innovation Institute (CSEII) and the Faculty of The Built Environment. Development of this course of study was supported by the German International Development Agency (GIZ) and the CARICOM Secretariat. Number of Graduating Graduate Students: In 2016, 80 students were awarded graduate degrees in 2016. This number included the University’s first PhD degree in Business Administration to be awarded. Additionally, five candidates were awarded the degree of Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D). Thesis and Dissertation Manual: The Thesis and Dissertation Manual was updated and uploaded to the University’s website, within the SGSRE webpage.
