University of Technology, Jamaica ANNUAL REPORT 2016-2017 Page 36 Excellence Through Knowledge STUDENTS’ UNION The University of Technology, Jamaica Students’ Union continues to be steadfast in its efforts to foster a sound relationship between the University’s Management and the students and to provide opportunities for students to be active in college politics by allowing their voices to be heard with regards to their rights, academic freedom and the promotion of students’ cultural, social and physical welfare. The motto of the Students’ Union is “To Serve and To Represent”. This body of representation seeks to foster effective communication between the student body and the University Council; defending the rights of all students academically, socially and otherwise in hopes of promoting unity and a sense of belonging; and to provide assistance financially through bursaries and grants to ease financial pressure on all students attending the University. Students’ Union Hosts Club and Societies Day On Thursday, October 27, 2016, the UTech, Jamaica Students’ Union hosted a successful Clubs and Societies Day dubbed ‘Clubs and Societies Xplosion,’ held in Caribbean Sculpture Park, Papine campus.
