University of Technology, Jamaica ANNUAL REPORT 2016-2017 Page 31 Excellence Through Knowledge Student Work & Travel Agencies The Career and Placement Unit registered 14 summer work and travel agencies that are allowed to recruit on the University of Technology, Jamaica Papine campus. The agencies are: Global Insight, IRSS – International Recruiting Staffing Solutions, SWAT, Joyst Youth Exchange Intl. Ltd, Students Overseas Recruiting Agency, Max J and Associates, HR Elite, Explore Your World, Continental Pools (Work Abroad), STEEP International, International Work and Travel Services, International Exchange Agency, MV Placement and Management Services, and the International Travel and Cultural Exchange. The above mentioned companies were given the approval to be on the campus for the academic year 2016/2017. The Unit also hosted the Work and Travel Day on November 10, 2016 in the Sculpture Park on the Papine Campus. Outstanding Students Receive Governor General’s Scholarship Scholarship and financial grants totalling $2 million were presented to three University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech, Ja.) students by Their Excellencies the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, ON, GCMG, CD and the Most Hon. Lady Allen at a ceremony at King’s House held on Friday, August 12, 2016. Miss Simone Dwyer, who is pursuing the Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, was the recipient of the scholarship valued at $1,380,580. First and second runners-up for the award, Mr. Raymond Stewart, and Ms. Lacy-Ann Green were presented with financial grants of $459,060 and $175,000 respectively to complete their studies. The award programme, dubbed the Sir Patrick and Lady Allen 40th Anniversary Scholarship was conceptualised in recognition of this marital milestone which they celebrated in 2015. The scholarship was offered to specifically to University of Technology, Jamaica students pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in the STEM area. In his remarks, the Governor-General expressed that he and Lady Allen are passionate about “serving our people” and therefore used their 40th wedding anniversary to receive gifts of cash to create an account for bright, but financially challenged students to pursue tertiary education.
