Concurrent sessions were held on Monday, August 22, 2016 under the themes: Student Finance, Healthy Lifestyles, Getting to know Academic Services, Peer Counselling, Career Planning, “Naah Gi It Up”, Taking care of your Mental Health while Studying and planning Quick and Easy meals with presenters from Grace Kitchens. d. The culminating activity for the week, the Academic Induction Ceremony was held on Friday, August 26, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in the Alfred Sangster Auditorium, while the Academic Induction Ceremony for the Western Campus was held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at the St John’s Methodist Church, Montego Bay. During the ceremonies, the students were introduced to the University Council, members of the Executive Management team and other Administrative and Academic staff. Students received a special welcome and charge from Acting President, Dr Colin Gyles. Orientation 2016 Exhibition Twenty-five companies, 8 faculties/colleges, 15 clubs exhibited at Orientation. Sagicor was the major sponsor, joined by Digicel, Smiths & Stewarts, Flow, Facey Commodities, Island Mist Spring Water, Nestle, Allied Insurance Brokers Ltd, S.OS, Massy Trading, Purity Bakery & World Brands. The Department received a total of $949,000 from Orientation-related activities. This consisted of sponsorship of $564,000 from companies that exhibited at orientation, $370,000 from the sponsorship for the guidebook, and $15,000 from ads displayed on the screen. Graduation Ceremony The 2016 Graduation Ceremony saw two special needs students with mobility difficulties participating in the exercise: Miss Sherona Anderson from the Faculty of Science and Sport graduated with a B.Sc. in Actuarial Science (First Class Honors) and Mr Aliou Graham from the College of Business and Management graduated with a Bachelor‘s Degree in Business Administration with a major in Human Resource management and a minor in Administrative and Information System Management. Disability/ Special Needs The University of Technology, Jamaica welcomed its first hearing impaired student, when 18-year- old Amakada Wallen, a past student of The Lister Mair Gilby High School for the Deaf was accepted at the College of Business and Management (COBAM) to pursue a four-year degree in Business Administration. A special orientation exercise was held for Miss Wallen which allowed A section of the Graduating Class of 2016 .
