University of Technology, Jamaica ANNUAL REPORT 2016-2017 Page 22 Excellence Through Knowledge Council in accordance with its powers under the University of Technology, Jamaica Act (No. 27) of 1999: Council Membership The tenure of the previous Council ended on April 30, 2016. A new Council was appointed for a period of three years with effect from May 9, 2016, which included representation from the former Council membership. The changes are indicated below: Pro- Chancellor - Mr Richard Powell was appointed as the Fourth Pro-Chancellor of the University. He replaced Mr Vivian Crawford OD, who had served the institution in excess of twenty years. He was formally welcomed to the position on October 31, 2016. Honorary Treasurer - Honourable Shirley Tyndall was appointed as the Honorary Treasurer. The position of Honorary Treasurer had been vacant since the resignation of Mr Dennis Chung in August 2015. During the period of the vacancy, Mr Theodore Golding, co-opted member of the Finance Committee had been appointed as Interim Chair of the Finance Committee. y y Acting President and Acting Deputy President Professor Colin Gyles, Deputy President, and Dr Haldane Johnson Associate Vice President Undergraduate Studies were re-appointed as Acting President and Acting Deputy President respectively with effect up to December 31, 2016, President - Professor Stephen Vasciannie was appointed President of the University, with effect from January 1, 2017 for a period of three years. The installation ceremony for the President was held on March 14, 2017. y y Private Sector Nominee - Mr Michael McAnuff- Jones, representative of the Jamaica Bankers Association (JBA), was appointed as Private Sector Nominee with effect from April, 2016. He replaced Mr Richard Murray, also from the JBA. The Council appointed Mr McAnuff-Jones as its Mr. Richard Powell (right) is presented with his Instrument of Office by Chancellor, the Most Hon.
