This event received widespread media coverage in the national newspapers. Special Activities y y The Calvin McKain Library celebrated Library and Information Week during November 6-12, 2016, under the theme ‘Libraries Matter: Harnessing Information for National Development”. Activities included library tours and exhibition. y y During the month of November the library also had the Calvin McKain Library Amnesty under the slogan “You forgot? We forgive” which allowed students, faculty and staff to have their library fines waived when they returned overdue materials. New Subscriptions and Partnerships y y The library started subscriptions to two new databases, Access Engineering and Micromedex Solutions in 2016. These were welcome additions of electronic resources for students and faculty members for the Faculty of Engineering and Computing and College of Health Sciences. y y Following negotiations in November 2016 between the University Librarian and Acquisitions Librarians from the University of the West Indies, Mona and St. Augustine, Trinidad campus Libraries, the Calvin McKain Library, University of Technology, Jamaica successfully partnered to share the cost of IEEE/ IET subscriptions for 2017-2019. This has realized huge savings of approximately US$45,000 (J$5,850,000) per year for the library over the three year period for the subscription. y y The Heather-Little White collection was formally handed over by her family, led by her brother veteran film-maker, Lennie Little-White to the University of Technology, Jamaica at a special Mr Lennie Little-White (centre) brother of the late Dr. Heather Little-White shares something of interest in one of the books from his sister’s personal library collection which he donated to the University of Technology, Jamaica at a special event held on Monday, July 25, 2016 at the University’s Papine campus.
