The Awards Ceremony was the culmination of Staff Development & Appreciation Week under the theme “Building Team Spirit, Promoting Respect”, highlighting several areas of activities including seminars and workshops which were attended by staff. Environmental Health During the 2016/2017 reporting period, eight critical environmental parameters were consistently monitored on all campuses of the university. These include but were not necessarily limited to: Food Safety, drinking water quality, pest infestation management, solid waste monitoring and management, occupational health and safety, environmental awareness and sensitization, swimming pool health and sanitation and promulgation of the environmental health and occupational health and safety policy. For the period being reported, the status of the university campus as per five environmental health parameters, Food Safety and water quality achieved and has been maintaining high extension high sanitation standards and by extension compliance with state regulations. The parameter with the lowest level of compliance and standards is Occupational Safety and Health (OSH). Medical Centre The Medical Centre continues to provide quality health care to the University Community. Among the services provided are General Medical Clinic, Health Education and Counselling, Family Planning and Laboratory Services. The team of health care professionals comprise of two full- time doctors and four full-time registered nurses as well as sessional/part-time doctors and nurses on the morning and evening shifts. Additionally, a claims assistant works alongside the team to manage health insurance claims. Employee Development and Training International Conferences/Seminars/Workshops attended for the period April 2016 – March 2017 The table below shows that a total of 203 staff members attended conferences, seminars and/ or workshops both locally and internationally for the period April 2016-March 2017 at a cost of approximately J$18,403,866.36. This represents 15% of the total staff population.
