AlandoTerrelonge, MP, (right), State Minister in the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport examines the University of Technology, Jamaica 60th Anniversary mural done by students attached to the University’s Centre for the Arts. The mural was unveiled on April 5, 2018 as part of the 60th Anniversary Art Exhibition, “Legacies” which features a fusion of art pieces demonstrating contemporary visual art, architecture and engineering compositions by UTech, Jamaica staff, current students and alumni. Admiring the mural from left are, Philip Clarke, Director, Centre for the Arts, Hector Wheeler, Associate Vice President, Advancement and Dr. Winston Campbell, Curator and Visual Arts Educator, UTech, Jamaica. Quality assurance in the context of higher education must consider the quality of the students’ learning experience as well as the needs of employers. The University has taken the necessary steps to ensure that a Quality Assurance System is in place for the delivery of quality academic offerings. This is done through the Office of Quality Assurance under the guidance of the Deputy President. The Quality Assurance system includes academic quality audits, accreditation, academic advisement, student instructor-module evaluation and monitoring and evaluation of the delivery of the curriculum. Quality Assurance Dr. Kamilah Hylton, Dean Members of the 2017 Graduating Class The Office of Distance Learning coordinates support services for distance learning and other technology- mediated educational approaches, such as online learning, designed for the UTech, Jamaica distance learner within Jamaica, the Caribbean and the rest of the world. Opportunities are available via online programmes and blended programmes (combining face to face with online or web-conferencing or interactive video conferencing) . Distance Learning Dr. Jeanette Bartley-Bryan Associate Vice President The Office of Teaching and Learning supports the overall direction of academic support services for the development of standards, policies, procedures and regulations to govern the delivery of the university’s academic programmes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. These include curriculum development, workshops for academic staff aimed at enhancing the quality of teaching and learning. Co- operative Education and Prior Learning Assessment are also functions of this office. The Centre for the Arts is an important cultural and heritage space for the benefit of our students, staff, alumni and the wider community in that thrust. The Centre offers a rich experience through the performing and visual arts.Students have the opportunity to pursue course electives in in music, dance and drama. The Centre for the Arts stands adjacent to the Caribbean Sculpture Park- the Caribbean’s first open air museum of its kind.
