Special Advertisement 2 THE DAILY OBSERVER SUNDAY JULY 22, 2018 twitter.com/jamaicaobserver www.jamaicaobserver.com The pioneering conceptualizers of the Jamaica Institute of Technology six decades ago were indeed visionaries. Their successors and institutional leaders since then have ensured that the fundamentally valuable connection between theory and practice and between intellect and skill, found full expression in the University of Technology, Jamaica which now proudly exists. I heartily congratulate the Council, Administration, Staff, Students and Supporters of our National University who have worked together to fashion an exciting programme of activities to mark UTech, Jamaica’s sixty years of service to the people of Jamaica, the region and beyond. The year will undoubtedly mark the beginning of that bright future for which the foundation has already been firmly laid. As a strong believer in the need for excellence as the standard requirement for both individual and national achievement, I also recognize the power of applied knowledge to accelerate development in countries like ours which have been experiencing comparatively slow economic growth. It is to the products of our educational institutions and particularly our universities with cutting edge technologies, visionary research departments and enlightened leadership that we must look for the acceleration of national progress. UTech, Ja. has a proud record of innovative programmes, and effective collaboration with other institutions, the private sector and Governments which augurs well for our future. The institution has not been afraid to venture boldly, even in the face of challenges. It has demonstrated its ability to be bold and to stay the course or make adjustments in its pursuit of relevance to national agendas. To have grown from four programmes at its inception to in excess of one hundred in its sixty years is testimony to its vision, its energy and its passion for progress. I confidently expect that the 60thanniversary programme will re-energize the University and make a significant contribution to its growth in reach, relevance and quality as it heightens its engagement with the society as a whole, not only in Jamaica but beyond our borders as well. Congratulations and best wishes for the 60th Anniversary Programme and for the future. HIS EXCELLENCY THE MOST HON. SIR PATRICK ALLEN ON, GCMG, CD, KSt.J Sixty Years of Energy and a Passion for Progress I extend greetings and congratulations to the University of Technology, Jamaica on its Diamond Anniversary. I acknowledge the hard work, dedication and outstanding commitment of the President, Board, management, lectures and staff all responsible for advancing education to our men and women. The University of Technology, Jamaica has consistently exhibited an understanding that education is indeed the most fundamental element that exists between a young mind and success; and therefore continues to prepare and produce some of Jamaica’s finest achievers. While we acknowledge your academic achievements, we also recognize the continued emphasis on extracurricular activities. The University of Technology, Jamaica has been a shining example of what the pursuance of tertiary education at the highest level can achieve, not just for those with ambitions and dreams to remain here in Jamaica, but to ultimately leave our shores and dominate on the global stage. Whether they are resident locally, regionally or internationally, the graduates of UTech, Ja.and certainly those enrolled all display results and characteristics that augers well for Jamaica, as they continue to stamp their class as integral contributors to our social and economic development.
