The Faculty comprises the School of Technical and Vocational Education and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The School of Technical and Vocational Education provides the highest quality teachers and trainers in technical specialisations by promoting academic excellence through skill mastery and competency development in critical areas of need. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences provides learning experiences that foster critical and creative thinking, a heightened awareness and practise of professionalism and the development of skills in effective communication and social learning. Through these two schools, students have the options of gaining levels of competence and professionalism in business and computer studies, family and consumer studies, industrial technology, apparel design, production and management, food service production and management, foreign languages and communication arts and technology. The Faculty offers the post-graduate programmes: MSc in Workforce Education and Development (WED), Med Educational Leadership and Management (M.Ed), Post graduate diploma in Education and the MSc in Career and Technical Education. The documentary formed part of the students’ exhibitions mounted at the 4th annual Communication Arts and Technology (BACAT) Final Year Student Exhibition held on May 3, 2018. The Faculty of Law was established in 2008. The first batch of students who completed the Bachelor of Laws graduated in 2011. Mr. Kent Pantry, former Director of Public Prosecution was appointed first Dean of the Faculty and was instrumental in its establishment and subsequent development. The further growth and development of the Faculty of Law was spearheaded by former Deans, Prof. Oswald Harding and Mr. Alfred McPherson. The law degree provides learners of all backgrounds and abilities with the opportunity to explore and develop their interest in the law and legal system of Jamaica and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to meet the need for students interested in the practice of law. It also provides a flexible route to complete the academic stage of training in order to progress to the vocational stage of legal education or related fields. The course of study for the L.L.B takes an innovative approach to education, training and professional practice, reflected in the teaching of modules such as Introduction to Forensic Science, Environmental Law and Critical Thinking. Strong emphasis is placed on international and comparative law and on specialist areas such as taxation, corporate, criminal law, health laws, CARICOM law, transportation law and public policy. The Faculty of Law established a Legal Advice Centre in 2011. The Centre provides legal advice for members of the public who are socially, economically or otherwise disadvantaged. It is of significant benefit to communities who benefit from advice to solve many of their day to day problems, while students are able to obtain hands-on training in several areas of law under the supervision of an Attorney.
