This School was the product of a mandate derived from a Royal Commission in the West Indies chaired by Lord Moyne in 1938. The West Indies School of Public Health is the institutional precursor to the School of Public Health and Health Technology located on Slipe Pen Road, Kingston. The School offers undergraduate courses of study in Environmental Health (Public Health Inspection), Public Health Nursing, and the Master in Public Health. A fundamental mission of the School is to actively contribute to the development of underserved communities. As such, the School has a strong community health focus, with needs-based training/ programme with a vibrant research agenda, producing competent graduates who are able to deliver public health services to communities and countries regardless of the circumstances or conditions. The College of Business and Management is the largest academic unit at the University, offering programmes at the undergraduate and graduate levels through its four schools: School of Business and Management (SOBA), School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM), Joan Duncan School of Entrepreneurship Ethics and Leadership (JDSEEL) and the School of Advanced Management. College of Business and Management The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management boutique hotel completed under the UTech, Jamaica Enhancement Project in March 2015. The JDSEEL is the first school of its kind in the English Speaking Caribbean to offer a specialised bachelor of degree in Entrepreneurship. It is also the first school of its kind in the English Speaking Caribbean to have an active business entrepreneurship Incubator centre for start-up businesses – the Technology Innovation Centre (TIC).The TIC nurtures small businesses in many sectors, but focuses on IT-related companies for the residential programme. It provides an environment which monitors, mentors and guides entrepreneurs to sustainability and success.
